I am not a fan of swimming/swimming costumes/chlorine/catching other peoples foot fungus' etc etc, but I can not deny my son the chance to splash around in a public pool, especially when we seem to be having such a glorious summer. So, we hopped on the number 87 from Colchester and took a day trip to the newly refurbished Brightlingsea Lido. A £3.70 return fare, turned out to be the best £3.70 I have spent all year! It was brilliant and we have already planned to go again this Friday AND next Tuesday. (Weather permitting obvs).
I don't know what the Lido (or outdoor pool as Tendring Council call it) was like before it's glamorous makeover but I was very impressed. Clean pools, clean but basic changing rooms and likewise with the toilets. It costs £4.00 for an adult and £3.00 for a child for the whole day! There is a cafe by the pool selling food that one should probably not eat whilst wearing a bathing suit i.e. chips, hotdogs etc etc so I was glad we took a picnic. You can also hire a sun bed for £2 for the day and the pools are serviced by some very smart Lifeguards. All in all a great place to visit.
You can find all the info regarding opening times etc on this link:

But if that wasn't excitement enough, directly behind the Lido is a little stretch of beach complete with brightly coloured Beach huts and crabs! (Some of which, sadly deceased).
But the icing on the cake is a little Boating Lake which sits the other side of the Lido. £1.50 for half an hour around the lake.
So, to recap: Lido, beach, Boating Lake all within a stones throw of each other. My mind has blown. I think this may be the best day trip out ever.
